Granite Edvance awards $914,000 in scholarships

NH nonprofit has awarded $1 million to NH students over the past year 

Concord, NH – Continuing its commitment to helping students fund their future pathways, Granite Edvance has awarded $914,000 in scholarships for the fall semester. A record 344 college and trade school students from all over the state received awards ranging from $1,000 to $3,000 in this latest round of scholarships.   

“As a new school year begins, we’re proud to help so many students manage the cost of tuition and take meaningful steps toward their goals,” said Christiana Thornton, President and CEO of the New Hampshire nonprofit. “Their success extends far beyond the classroom. As they build their futures, they’ll contribute to their communities, strengthen our workforce, and create new opportunities for themselves and others. We’re honored to play a part in their journeys.” 

Recipients say the funds provide critical support as well as inspiration for their journeys.  

“This scholarship has lightened my financial burden for college, which allows me to focus more on the most important aspect of school: learning,” said Joyce Nishimwe of Concord, a first-generation college student and neuroscience major at Wellesley College. “I’m excited to one day help students achieve their goals just as Granite Edvance has helped by funding my education for the past three years of my college career!” 

“This scholarship helps provide me the financial security I need to be able to pursue my education,” said University of New Hampshire student Ethan LaRose of Littleton. “Without organizations like Granite Edvance, I would not be able to afford the ever-increasing cost of college.” 

Granite Edvance has awarded $1 million in scholarships over the past year, increasing its total award amount for the sixth year in a row. Since 2020, the organization has funded over $3.5 million in scholarships. Additionally, the scholarship program was restructured last year to better meet the needs of community college and trade-school students. Scholarships for this cohort are now offered three times a year so that students can access funds when needed. 

The scholarship program is just one of the ways Granite Edvance helps students pay for college and career training. As a nonprofit lender, the organization also offers private student and parent loans with competitive rates and expert local support. Additionally, its free services and resources, including college savings calculators and 1-on-1 appointments, help students and families make informed decisions about financing education.
