$300,000 awarded in scholarships to NH college students
NHHEAF Network awards $300,000 in scholarships to NH college students
In its 18th year, scholarship program reaches historic number of students
(Concord, N.H.) — The New Hampshire Higher Education Assistance Foundation (NHHEAF) Network is thrilled to announce the winners of the 2023 NHHEAF Network Scholarship. This year, 96 returning undergraduate students will receive scholarships totaling $300,000 – the NHHEAF Network’s largest award yet.
“Our organization is passionate about making an impact in the lives of New Hampshire’s young people, and we’re pleased to be able to increase that impact again this year,” said Christiana Thornton, President and CEO of the NHHEAF Network. “The scholarship is one of the most exciting ways we support students as they pursue their college and career goals.”
Scholarships totaling $2,500 to $5,000 were awarded in four categories – Community Service, Academic Excellence, Leadership, and Opportunity – to current New Hampshire college students studying in or out of state. This year’s winners are attending 42 different institutions and include 44 first-generation college students.
Hannah Peterson, who won a $5,000 Leadership Scholarship, said the award will help her fill the gap between her college bill and what her family can afford with two children in college. Double majoring in political science and environmental studies at St. Anselm College, Peterson worked as a substitute teacher in her local school district last year to help pay the bills, often getting up at 5 a.m. on days she didn’t have class. “This is a huge blessing,” she said. “It’s going to be really nice to be able to focus on my academics.”
The NHHEAF Network has provided scholarships to hundreds of New Hampshire college students since the program began in 2005. The annual scholarship is just one of numerous ways the Concord non-profit has been empowering students to discover and achieve their
education and career goals throughout its nearly 60 year history. The NHHEAF Network’s Center for College Planning provides free college and career counseling and resources to New Hampshire students and families. Its private student loan program, EdvestinU, offers reduced rates to New Hampshire students. Visit NHHEAF.org for more information.
